Dirac Labs, a quantum-enabled navigation company, today announced an oversubscribed $1.8M pre-seed funding round with strategic participation from quantumEDGE Ventures. The funding will accelerate the prototyping and field trials of Dirac Labs' proprietary quantum sensors, advancing the development of a universal positioning system for environments where traditional GPS cannot be relied upon.
The pre-seed round was led by TitletownTech, with participation from quantumEDGE Ventures, Automotive Ventures, Riceberg Ventures, Jude Gomila, and Balaji Srinivasan. The syndicate brings together extensive expertise in deeptech scaling, advanced mobility, and cross-border strategic market access.
While traditional GPS is global, it is not universal - its signals fail to penetrate underwater, underground, or function reliably in contested or remote environments. To solve this critical infrastructure gap, Dirac Labs has developed a highly scalable, diamond-based sensing platform that measures features of the Earth’s magnetic field with extreme precision.
The company's proprietary hardware is paired with advanced AI models that perform real-time signal processing and sensor fusion. This approach turns faint magnetic signals into highly precise positioning data, keeping devices resilient even as external conditions change. Crucially, the system leverages existing semiconductor foundry infrastructure to achieve low-cost scalability, and is designed to plug directly into the standard GPS device ports on submarines, airplanes, autonomous industrial equipment, and other vehicles without requiring platform re-engineering.
For quantumEDGE Ventures, the investment in Dirac Labs perfectly aligns with the focus on backing high-impact, globally scalable deeptech infrastructure. As industries vital to the global economy - from oceanographic exploration and autonomous logistics to critical resource mining - seek resilient operational capabilities, Dirac Labs’ breakthrough solves the manufacturability and scaling challenges that have historically prevented the broad deployment of quantum sensing technologies.
“There is a clear and timely need for navigation and positioning capabilities underwater, underground and more,” said Jill Enos, Managing Partner of TitletownTech. “Dirac Labs is combining quantum sensing, AI and semiconductor-compatible manufacturing to build a scalable navigation solution for the places where GPS cannot be relied upon. The leadership team has the technical depth and commercial ambition to define this emerging category, and we are proud to lead their pre-seed investment.”
“GPS is global, but not universal. The signals have never reached underground or underwater, where a growing share of exploration, mining and defense work happens,” said Sanket Deshpande, Co-founder and CEO of Dirac Labs. “Earth's magnetic field is already in those places, and it only gets stronger the closer you get to the rock. Dirac Labs is building the quantum sensors that turn that field into positioning for the platforms that need it most.”
"We are building a navigation layer for everywhere that GPS cannot reach and closing the gap toward true universal positioning," added Aishwarya Das, Co-founder and COO of Dirac Labs. "Early traction with major defense and industrial partners has validated the near-term demand for quantum sensing, and once these platforms can navigate the subsurface with confidence, missions that are impossible today become routine."
Spun out of the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2025 by Deshpande and Das, Dirac Labs combines deep expertise in fielding robust quantum technologies and machine learning. In addition to private capital, the company is backed by non-dilutive public funding from the Indo-U.S. Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF) and participated in gener8tor's Great Lakes Innovation Accelerator as part of the NOAA Ocean Enterprise Accelerators program, alongside additional support from the Wisconsin Entrepreneurship Hub.
